Oldham Athletic have made former Manchester United man Chris Eagles their latest new signing.

The 33-year-old winger has been training with Latics throughout pre-season and went on their training camp to Morocco.

Eagles, who has been without a club since leaving Ross County in April 2018, has sign a one-year contract with the option of another year.

He came through the Old Trafford academy and made 17 first-team appearances for United.

After several loan spells Eagles joined Burnley in 2008, spending three years at Turf Moor before moving onto Bolton Wanderers where he enjoyed a largely successful time at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Eagles’ has had something of a nomadic footballing existence since then, playing for Charlton Athletic, Bury, Accrington Stanley and Port Vale before his spell in Dingwall.

Elsewhere, Oldham continued their build-up to the new League Two season with a 2-0 defeat at home to National League side Stockport County on Saturday.

Ash Palmer and Sam Walker got the goals for Jim Gannon’s men.

Latics complete their pre-season programme at home to FC Halifax Town on Tuesday, the Shaymen now under the guidance of new boss Pete Wild, the popular Oldham figure having only left Boundary Park at the end of last season.

The new campaign begins at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, August 3.
