IN-FORM Oldham produced power play of the highest order at the Vestacare Stadium to surge to within 80 minutes of promotion to the Betfred Championship with a 22-12 win against Doncaster in a Betfred League 1 play-off semi-final.
Roughyeds now go straight through to the final on Sunday, October 6 which will also be played at the Vestacare Stadium.
In recording their 10th win in 11 games, Roughyeds tackled tenaciously from start to finish and scored tries by David Hewitt, Emmerson Whittel and Paul Crook, who also kicked five goals, including a penalty from near half way.
"It was a great performance," said coach Scott Naylor. "We were top-class defensively and we did the little things that make all the difference – the one per cent things – really well.
"It was close to the complete performance. We're coming good at the right time, but there's still some improvement in us."
Newcastle Thunder beat Workington Town 38-18 in the other semi-final and the Tynesiders now face a rematch with Doncaster next weekend for the right to come to Oldham in the Promotion Final on October 6.
Details of the big game will be announced as soon as they are known.
