DANNY Bridge was outstanding in a six-try team performance as Oldham rattled a young but hugely talented St Helens Select side in a friendly at the Vestacare Stadium.
Fielding eight young first-team squad members and a raft of reserve-team players and Academy internationals, led around the field by the more experienced Matthew Costello, Paul Crook and Joe Batchelor, Saints led 12-10 before Roughyeds exploded into life in the last 10 minutes.
Twenty-two late points with tries by Bridge (2), Kyran Johnson and Harry Aaronson, plus three conversions by Dave Hewitt rocked Saints and gave Roughyeds a 32-12 triumph.
The home side led 10-6 at half-time with tries out wide on the right by Declan Kay and James Worthington but Saints got their noses in front with a try by Costello and a goal by Dodd before Oldham launched their impressive late avalanche.
They're clearly attempting to play a more expansive game at speed and when they get the execution right it is exciting and exhilarating to watch.
