WITH a 16-14 win at Whitehaven, Oldham picked up their first points of the season at the third attempt in the Betfred Championship.
Full-back Dan Abram, a former 'Haven player, scored 12 of Oldham's points with four goals and a penalty try when he was tripped by home full-back Sam Forrester as he raced for the line.
Forrester was given a yellow card and sin-binned – a crucial incident in a tight game between two evenly-matched sides, played in poor conditions.
Abram was voted a clear man of the match by OuRLeague viewers. while Gareth Owen scored Oldham's other try after good work by Dave Hewitt.
The win took Oldham off the bottom of the Championship table and moved them five rungs up the ladder.
"An ugly win is far more enjoyable than a pretty defeat," commented Roughyeds coach Matt Diskin.
