LAURENCE Bassini is interested in buying Oldham Athletic.

The controversial former Watford owner is understood to have accompanied Latics owner Abdallah Lemsagam to a meeting with Boundary Park landlords Brassbank.

The two parties are at loggerheads over a £600,000 debt - relating to overdue rent and a loan - and are set for a court date in Manchester on Friday that could see the club go into administration.

Bassini tried to take over Bolton Wanderers last summer, going through the courts in an ultimately failed bid to take control at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Among many issues he saw his business plan for the League One club rejected by the EFL.

Bassini attended the Latics' game at Stevenage in January and was spotted in the directors' box.

Elsewhere, the Fan Led Group - who took over the running of the Joe Royle Stand last May -  have once again stated they want to bring the ownership of the club and the ground together.

In a statement they confirmed they are waiting on the outcome of the current dispute but say they have funding totalling more than £5million in place.
