DINO Maamria has confirmed that his Oldham Athletic squad are to train away from the club this week.

Football League fixtures were suspended on Friday until at least the start of April and the club decided to act fast to make sure there was little disruption.

The players will train away from Boundary Park and Chapel Road to reduce the risk of coronavirus spreading, despite there being no confirmed cases or players showing any symptoms.

"The first team are on active rest this week. I've made the decision with my staff to give the players individual fitness work programmes to do on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday," said Maamria.

"Spirits remain high in the camp and we will keep in regular contact with them to see how they're getting on and offer support as the backroom staff are committed to ensure we can continue to make progress.

"At the moment we plan to be back in from next Monday training together and focusing on the fixtures we have left.

"We understand it's a difficult time for everyone and it's an opportunity to rest, recover and make sure as a squad we're in peak physical condition when the football season resumes as we want to finish the season strongly.

"I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone the best and to stick together. Look after yourself and your family and I'll see you all soon."
