Oldham Athletic could be back in League Two action as early as June 6, according to reports, as the EFL looks set to conclude the remaining nine games behind closed doors.

EFL chairman Rick Parry outlined to clubs last week the league was looking to finish the season in a 56-day period and their ‘working assumption’ was that games would be played behind closed doors.

Clubs were told that players should treat this current lockdown period as their off season, with no team to return to training before May 16.

The top four divisions, and National League structure, have all been suspended indefinitely, after re-start dates of April 3 and April 30 were both pushed back.

Leagues in Italy and Spain have also suspended matches indefinitely, but  the authorities in Germany have now allowed clubs in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 to resume training ahead of matches being played behind closed doors possibly as early as next month.

And ESPN are reporting that English football could resume at the beginning of June, with a date of June 6 a possibility.

That would give clubs a window three weeks to prepare for their remaining matches, and mean a hiatus of three months since the last round of matches were played.

The EFL have stated throughout that plans would be amended based upon Government advice and that it wouldn’t comment on speculation of when the season may resume.
