HARRY Kewell hailed top prospect Ben Hough after an impressive debut in Latics’ 4-0 win over Wolves’ Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

The second-year scholar was handed a chance in the Oldham midfield and left his manager in no doubt about his potential on Tuesday night.

Hough played the full 90 minutes having been an unused substitute for three of the opening four games of the campaign in League Two and the Carabao Cup.

Kewell said: “He’s a youngster is he? He didn’t look like a youngster today.

“From the moment he trained with me there was something about him.

“He’s not the tallest of people but he gets around and he gets stuck in and for me he was fantastic.

“He knows the pitch, he knows the formation, he knows his position and I thought he had an excellent game.

“If you’re ready to play, you’re ready to play.

“He had his opportunity and he’s done himself the world of good.

“Now he’s got to try and match that level in order to progress further.”
