JACK Rafferty is already targeting another big fight after impressing in his breakthrough victory.

The unbeaten Shaw prospect saw off his toughest test yet in Tom Hill, prevailing 78-75 on referee Mark Lyson’s card after a pulsating eight-round contest behind closed doors at Production Park Studios in Wakefield.

Former Northern Area title challenger Hill had lost just one of 10 heading in while Rafferty extended his perfect winning record to 13 professional fights on the card put together by his management outfit MTK Global.

Now he has he sights set on rising up the domestic welterweight rankings with unbeaten, big-punching, London-based Albanian Florian Marku among the names on the 25-year-old’s radar.

“I’d love Florian Marku next,” Rafferty said.

“I think MTK Global tried getting that fight on already, I’m ready for step ups like that.

“I want to challenge myself more and I’ll be staying in the gym waiting for the call.”

The fight had to be pushed back from last month after a positive Covid-19 test for Hill postponed the bout, but was quickly rescheduled.

Rafferty had a fast start to the fight, but Hill was able to come back into the contest during the mid-rounds.

The Steve Maylett-trained fighter then however stepped on the gas in the second half of the fight, landing a number of eye-catching shots to take the victory after 24 minutes of engaging action.

Rafferty said: “This was my first eight rounder and my first proper test, and I loved it.

“It’s alright getting the lads out early doors but you need tests like this as I step up in the ranks.

“I knew I had to work hard and knew he’d have a good four rounds in him, but then I had to carry it on to win the fight.

“I’m training alongside world champions, and that brings me on.”

The fight can be watched back on YouTube channel IFL TV.
