HARRY Kewell hopes to be able to switch things around when Latics head to Cambridge on Saturday.

Oldham’s recent good run of form was stopped in its tracks with a flat display seeing Kewell’s side lose 1-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

Despite having scored eight goals in their three games prior to the midweek defeat, Latics posed little attacking threat against Keith Hill’s in-form visitors.

Injuries meant Kewell was without a striker among his replacements but he is hoping that will change sooner rather than later.

When asked if he might have more options for the trip to Cambridge, the Latics boss said: “I hope so.

“Zak’s (Dearnley) very close, George (Blackwood) is close, (Dylan) Bahamboula’s close.

“Hopefully we can get some good news and maybe freshen things up for Saturday.”

Against Tranmere, Kewell made one change from the weekend FA Cup win over Bradford City with Arenal loanee Harry Clarke dropping to the bench to be replaced by Raphael Diarra in the back four.

Kewell said: “He’s just come back from injury and to play two 90 minutes straight away was going to be touch and go.

“But he came on second half and he was a delight to watch again.”

Proceedings on Tuesday night started in bizarre circumstances with Latics forced into a late kit change.

Referee Alan Young felt there was a potential kit clash with Oldham’s blue and Tranmere’s white and blue strips and ordered a late change.

With the visitors having only brought their home kit, Latics switched to black and gold in the run-up to kick-off with Kewell less than impressed.

“We’ve tried to help the situation and he (the referee) was very thankful and all that but these things are in place a long time before the game kicks off,” said the Latics boss.

“I don’t see why there’s been a mistake.”
