OLDHAM outcast Gary Woods has extended his loan deal with Aberdeen until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old keeper has yet to make his Dons debut since signing on loan from Latics on deadline day in October, having been signed as cover after an injury to Tomas Cerny.

His move came a month after, along with David Wheater, Latics announced the former Hamilton and Ross County man would not be part of Harry Kewell’s first-team squad.

Woods, who is out of contract in the summer, made 16 appearances for Oldham in his first season at Boundary Park before becoming one of the players involved in a dispute with the club’s hierarchy about proposed wage cuts in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Being exiled from the first team squad led to Woods and Wheater’s representatives accusing Latics of putting undue pressure on the players to break their contracts.

A statement on Aberdeen’s website read: “Aberdeen FC confirms goalkeeper Gary Woods has extended his short-term loan deal and will remain at the club until the end of the season. The experienced 30-year-old, on loan from English League Two side Oldham Athletic, joined the Dons in October following an injury to goalkeeper Tomas Cerny.”
