OLDHAM are closing in on the signing of Northampton midfielder Nicky Adams.
The former Bury and Rochdale man, 34, is being allowed to leave the Cobblers having made 16 appearances in all competitions for the League One side this season.
Bolton-born Adams has significant pedigree in League Two, being something of a promotion specialist, with his play-off success with Northampton last summer the fourth time he had got out of the division in six years.
Latics boss Harry Kewell, who has already added Coventry City loanee Marcel Hilssner to his squad this window, has talked about the need for experience in his squad and Adams would fit the bill on that front.
He also counts Leicester, Crawley and Carlisle among his other former clubs.
