OLDHAM have completed their second signing of the day in former Southampton forward Marcus Barnes.

The 24-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving St Mary’s at the end of last season, has signed a deal until the end of the season at Boundary Park after impressing on trial over the last few months.

Reading-born Barnes made one senior appearance for the Saints as a substitute in the FA Cup, also playing for their Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

He also has experience on loan at Yeovil and Eastleigh, the former coming in League Two.

Barnes' deal follows the arrival of Nicky Adams from Northampton.

Boss Harry Kewell said: He's an interesting one as I see a lot of potential in him.

"He's got that hunger in his belly to prove he can become a regular performer. He's just got to back his ability and when he does that, I can see some exciting things happening from him."

Barnes said: "I'm looking forward to what the second part of this season brings. I've been around the club for a few months now after moving up here and they have shown huge faith in me, so now it's my time to return that by going out on the pitch and giving my all.

"I'm an attacker that likes to run in-behind with pace and after a few training sessions I know the style of play the gaffer wants me to focus on."
