HARRY Kewell has revealed Latics face competition in their bid to keep hold of Jordan Barnett.

The former Barnsley man sees his short-term deal expire at the end of the month having been picked up after impressing on trial in pre-season.

He has made 24 appearances for Oldham in all competitions this season and Kewell has previously told The Oldham Times he does want to extend the versatile left-sided man’s contract.

But, according to the Australian, Latics are not the only club interested in his signature as the clock ticks on his deal.

“With Jordan Barnett we’re in negotiations,” Kewell said. “But we know there’s a few clubs out there looking at him because he’s been a fantastic asset for us.

“We’re just waiting to see on that one.”

Kewell has already brought in three faces during the January transfer window – Nicky Adams from Northampton, Coventry City loanee Marcel Hilssner and free agent forward Marcus Barnes.

Harry Clarke has also extended his loan from Arsenal until the end of the season.

"I'm buzzing to be able to stay here and try and help the club finish off the season strongly," the Gunners prospect said.

"I've loved it ever since I came up here and I've progressed so much in a short space of time.

"I've also made some good friends here and would like to thank all the Oldham fans who have sent me messages of support even though I've not been able to see you in person, it does help and gives me huge confidence."
