ALFIE McCalmont will be available again for Latics' trip to Cheltenham on Tuesday night, according to boss Harry Kewell.

The midfielder was initially announced as the loanee to miss out against Newport on Saturday, with only five of the six in Kewell's squad able to named in a match-day squad.

But asked about the Leeds man post-match the Latics boss insisted it was in fact injury that had ruled him out of the win over the Exiles.

"Alfie just picked up a slight, little thing but he’ll be alright for Cheltenham," Kewell told The Oldham Times.

Latics were forced to make a late change to their line-up with goalkeeper Ian Lawlor dropping out to be replaced by Laurence Bilboe who made his second EFL appearance having started the win at Bolton back in October.

Kewell confirmed it was a back problem that saw Lawlor withdrawn but was unsure of the extent of the problem post-match.

Bilboe was beaten just two minutes in with Jake Scrimshaw heading in Luke Gambin's cross but was largely solid, one late fumble aside.

"I thought he was fantastic," said Kewell.

"It’s a shame really, because the cross for the first goal was a really good one and sometimes you just can’t defend them.

"But if you’re going to concede you may as well concede very early on because then you’ve got 87 minutes to get it back and that’s when we’re dangerous.

"Maybe that’s the plan now? Let someone score early and then go and attack!"
