Harry Kewell insists he leaves Latics “without any regrets”.

The Australian has been sacked after just over seven months in charge with Oldham 16th in League Two following Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to struggling Southend.

He had spoken at length about wanting time to turn around Latics’ fortunes but owner Abdallah Lemsagam is now looking for his seventh permanent manager since his takeover in January 2018.

It is understood the Oldham hierarchy grew impatient with the disappointing home form under Kewell and the poor defensive record.

"Firstly I’d like to thank the fans for their support through my short spell at Oldham," Kewell said on social media.

"All of the staff who have worked tirelessly throughout hectic schedule during a global pandemic making things tick behind the scenes.

“I’m proud of my players and coaching staff I honestly felt we were making good progress despite the inconsistency at times.

“I knew coming into this job that I wouldn’t have a budget to work with and that time wouldn’t be on my side but I leave without any regrets.”
