ROUGHYEDS have completed the loan signing of St Helens youngster Tom Nisbet.

The 21-year-old wing, full-back or centre trained with his new team-mates for the first time last night and will be available for selection in the squad to play York City Knights at the new LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

He joined Saints from Newton Storm at the age of 15 and has come through the Super League club’s system, having played at scholarship, academy and under-19s levels.

He has represented Lancashire and England at academy level and has had one game in the Saints’ first team, having played on the wing against Salford Red Devils last year.

Nisbet said: “I’m excited about joining Oldham with the prospects of playing at senior level in the Betfred Championship.

“Hopefully, Oldham will be pleased with me.”

He says wing, full-back and centre, in that order, are his favourite positions although he would be delighted to play anywhere at Oldham, just to be given an opportunity.

Club chairman Chris Hamilton said: “Tom is joining us initially on a two-week loan.

“We have a good relationship with Saints, who have a big production line of young players coming through.

“Tom is in the first-team squad at Saints and waiting for his chance.

“In the meantime, he can help us out and get some senior rugby at the same time.

“Both Tom and ourselves are looking forward to it.”

Nisbet is in his second year as a member of the Saints first-team squad.
