Well, the long-awaited return of fans to matches certainly didn’t go to plan as far as we were concerned!

A very disappointing result at Featherstone left the Rovers fans excited and the 100 Oldham fans permitted to attend bitterly disappointed for sure.

We are doing things the hard way at the moment, no doubt about that, but we need to dig in, regroup and go again.

That is easier said than done, I am very aware of that, but I have also been around long enough to know what a tough division the Championship is and that you absolutely cannot let a couple of bad results overtake what the season goals are and the long-term plan is.

We are competing against teams who are very well established in the division and not only that, against teams who have far bigger budgets than we do.

So, until the lottery win comes in or a benefactor, like several clubs have, we continue to cut our cloth accordingly and to fight tooth and nail to get the results we need this season, and it will happen, I’m sure of that.

This week is another difficult game for us, against a York team who are very much on the up at present.

A brand-new stadium, heavy investment into the team, with several players who were in Super League last year now plying their trade with York, and a feel-good factor in the city all adding up to make them a very difficult proposition on the field for our guys on Sunday afternoon. This will also be the first game with fans in attendance at the LNER Community Stadium with a limited capacity but no away fans.

It really is a big day for the York club as we come to town.

On the subject of fans, we continue to work with the local authority and the RFL ahead of the Widnes match on May 30 at which we are hoping our fans will be able to return.

We are currently awaiting approval on the plans we have submitted, which is a complex and detailed piece of work in itself, and then we can relay the all-important information to you so that you can prepare for what will be a great occasion – the first time for 14 months that most people will have been able to see a game in person.

As part of the ‘new’ normal, everybody will need to buy a ticket in advance, online and as mentioned before, the capacity will be reduced significantly from what it was previously as social distancing is still very much in place.

There’s certainly never a dull moment!
