SAM Hart says relegation will "hurt for a long time".

Oldham Athletic's exit from the Football League made it made it back-to-back relegations for the left back.

Hart signed for Latics in the summer on a free transfer after leaving relegated Southend United.

In addressing supporters through social media in the aftermath of Saturday's defeat to Salford City, which sealed Oldham's fate, the 25-year-old wrote: "After some time reflecting I would like to apologise to the fans of Oldham who have travelled long and hard this year!

"It's been a difficult year for everyone but as players we and I take full responsibility. We simply haven't been good enough!

"I have always done my best for the club and the shirt. This will hurt for a long time but I know this amazing club will be back better than ever.

"Thank you for the amazing support."

Team-mates Junior Luamba and top scorer Davis Keillor-Dunn also echoed the sentiment through social media.

"Don't know where to start. Frustrating and devastating outcome to such a massive club with a great history," Luamba wrote.

"I'd like to apologise to all the fans who supported the team through thick and thin this campaign, we were simply not good enough.

"We've let you all down as well as ourselves.

"Hopefully the club can rebuild and return to its rightful place in the future."

Davis Keillor-Dunn added: "I'd like to express my absolute devastation after this weekend's events.

"It's taken some time for things to sink in for me after a difficult season for everyone.

"I feel for the fans more than anything but don't think for a second we as players aren't hurting too.

"I will always give 100 per cent whenever I pull on that shirt. The support throughout has been tremendous, we are all affected right now, but I know this club will be back to where it belongs soon."
