ROUGHYEDS are pleased to announce that the initial two-week loan of Wakefield’s young forward Dane Windrow has been extended to the end of the season with a 48-hour recall clause.

The highly-rated 19-year-old, full-time at Trinity and a member of the Super League club’s 2022 first-team squad, has already played in two games for Oldham, against Cornwall at home and Doncaster away, and he will now be set fair to pull the Roughyeds’ jersey over his head on many other occasions this year.

Said Roughyeds’ head coach Stu Littler: “We are really pleased to have Dane with us for this longer spell. He’s a young, up-and-coming Super League forward, whose future in the game stretches out ahead of him.

“At the age of 19, he just needs time and opportunity to develop and we are delighted to offer him that opportunity. I would like to offer my personal thanks, and those of chairman Christopher Hamilton and everyone else at our club, to everyone at Wakefield for their help in this.

“Dane needs a platform on which to play regularly in readiness for Super League and we are more than pleased to provide him with that platform.”

A Dewsbury lad, Windrow started playing rugby league as a boy at Dewsbury Celtic before moving on to Brighouse Rangers. Aged 15, he signed Scholarship forms for Wakefield where he has been ever since, latterly playing Academy and reserve-team rugby.

He said: “I damaged ankle ligaments in pre-season training and that set me back a bit, but I’m fine now. I came through my two Oldham games against Cornwall and Doncaster with no reaction whatsoever.

“ I’ve quickly gelled with the other lads and I’m enjoying my time at Oldham. It was just great to get playing again. There aren’t many reserve-team fixtures and I was five weeks without a game before I got fixed up at Oldham.

“I’ve signed on loan to the end of the season and I’m really looking forward to it.

“It was just good to start playing again.”

* Without a game in the weekend just gone, Roughyeds have a tough test on Saturday (May 14) when they meet league leaders North Wales Crusaders (5.30pm kick-off) at the Stadiwm Eirias in Colwyn Bay.

Having beaten Swinton Lions at Heywood Road twice already this year, in cup and league, they won at Doncaster 46-0 on Sunday to make it seven wins from seven games.

They had three former Oldham players in the side - Jack Holmes and Matty Reid in the centre positions and Matthew Fletcher at loose-forward.
