Latics have been linked with a move for Harrogate Town defender Nathan Sheron.

Sheron came through the ranks at Liverpool and also had spells with Fleetwood, Walsall and Scottish club St Mirren among others before joining Harrogate last summer.

The defender made 36 appearances last season as the Sulphurites finished 19th in the League Two table.

However, he has since been transfer listed and manager Simon Weaver recently revealed that he was close to securing a move to an unnamed non-league side.

He told the Harrogate Advertiser: “Nathan Sheron is close to sealing a move to a National League club.

“Shez desperately wants to start games and I told him that I couldn’t see him doing that here.

“I never wanted to hang about as a player when I was told I wasn’t in the manager’s plans and he is similar in that mindset.”

Latics have already made two signings this summer as they prepare for life in the National League, bringing in Liam Hogan and Chris Porter.

The club were also keen to bring in Niall Maher after the defender reached the end of his contract with Halifax, but he opted to join newly-promoted Grimsby in the Football League instead.

Meanwhile, Harrogate and League One side Burton Albion are reportedly interested in Kyle Jameson following his departure from Boundary Park.

Last month, Latics revealed the centre-back was one of 13 players who would be leaving the club following relegation to the National League along with Dylan Bahamboula, Kane Badby, Ousseynou Cisse, Raphael Diarra, Dylan Fage, Jamie Hopcutt, Davis Keillor-Dunn, Christopher Missilou, Tope Obadeyi, Carl Piergianni, Danny Rogers and Callum Whelan.

Jameson, who spent time at Chelsea as a youngster, arrived at Boundary Park back in 2020 and went on to make 42 appearances.

Burton are managed by Stamford Bridge legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and finished 16th in League One last season.

Bahamboula has also been linked with a return to League Two after leaving Oldham at the end of his contract.

Tranmere Rovers are said to be interested in signing the midfielder, who scored four goals in 38 games last term.

The Merseyside club have already been active on the transfer front, bringing in Reece McAlear, Ben Hockenhull, Paul Lewis and Ethan Bristow.

Bahamboula was on target in a Carabao Cup tie against the Prenton Park club back in August, slotting home from the tightest of angles as Latics won on penalties to book their place in the second round.

Following Latics’ relegation out of the Football League, the midfielder wrote on social media: “Sad for you fans, this season individually and collectively didn't live up to expectations.

“Just a word to say, 'sorry'. I hope the club will come back as soon as possible because you really don't deserve this."
