OLDHAM Athletic have added winger Ben Tollitt to the squad on a one-year deal, following a successful trial.

Tollitt impressed in Saturday's pre-season friendly Mansfield Town, and having trained with the club for a week made his move permanent ahead of tonight's friendly with Radcliffe (kick-off 7.45pm).

The 27-year-old former Everton youngster, who was part of the Tranmere squad that won promotion from the National League in 2018, has spent the last two seasons with AFC Fylde, where Oldham end their pre-season friendly fixtures on Saturday.

And manager John Sheridan was delighted to add him to the squad.

“I’ve been very impressed with Ben having seen him closely recently and he’ll provide good options for us with his attacking qualities," said the Latics boss.

“Ben is a player who can make things happen, he’s got a good turn of pace, he is very direct and is also capable of weighing in with a good number of goals.

"We’ve been looking to strengthen our options in terms of our attacking play and Ben has certainly got the ability to do well for us this season.”

Having started out at Everton, he made 12 substitute appearances for Portsmouth before returning to the north west with Tranmere.

After appearing 23 times on loan, he made the move permanent a few months later. During his time at Prenton Park he scored 18 goals and was part of the squad that earned promotion from the National League in 2018.

He also spent a season at Blackpool, in addition to two loans at Wrexham, before moving to Fylde in the summer of 2020, where he scored 17 goals from wide areas, including a hat-trick against Chorley last January as he made a good impression on the club.
