Latics fans travelling to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday can expect free drinks when they get there, courtesy of Dorking boss Marc White.

White, the Surrey club's owner and chairman, has described their August trip to Boundary Park as his "favourite day" of the season so far, despite suffering a 3-2 defeat.

It was a landmark day for Latics, who welcomed new owners the Rothwell family with a mass procession down Sheepfoot Lane.

It was a milestone moment for Dorking too, playing their first televised game.

And White is keen to reward Latics for their warm welcome earlier in the season, and the efforts of those making their way to Surrey amid train strikes, with a free bar at venues next to their Meadowbank ground.

"My favourite day so far really, bar the result," said White of the first meeting with Latics in August.

"Being honest it's where we are as a club, having come through 12 promotions in no time at all, Oldham were borderline Premier League when we were formed in Division Five of the West Sussex League.

"For us, we were just really flattered when we went to Oldham to go to an iconic place like that, and it was fantastic to see the fans getting their club back and getting behind what was going on there. A carnival atmosphere, the game was on the box, the first time we've been on the box, the weather was half decent. I had my shades on, and the league fined me for wearing blue denim, which we had an argument about. Apart from that we really enjoyed it, and the Oldham fans were magnificent and our fans intend to return the favour for those travelling down."

He added: "I got a message saying Frank (Rothwell) is coming down, so that will be good.

"The fans are right behind the club. From their point of view they've got their club back and Frank's putting his money where his mouth is and he's doing his best for them so I'm sure they appreciate that.

"From our point of view we're going to put some money behind the bar, we're going to the micro pub on West Street and The Spotted Dog on South Street. One of us, it might be me, will drop money in about 1ish to each place to reward those Oldham fans that are avoiding the train strikes and finding their way to Dorking, we appreciate your effort. So if you can just bundle into cars your end and make an effort, sell a few more tickets that would be great.

"We're going to recognise the hospitality they gave us. The two clubs have got a good relationship. And then after that we're going to hope to smack their arses. That's the plan.

"We're going to go absolutely all-out attack, 100 per cent, and we're looking forward to providing Dorking with a (founder) Premier League team visiting. That's just amazing for our town. We're privileged and regardless of who plays it will be a typical home performance I'm sure."
