Harry Vaughan is on trial with Hull City Under 21s following his Radcliffe recall.

The Latics youngster had been impressing on loan with the Northern Premier League Premier Division side and had just agreed a one-month extension to his initial one-month deal.

But days after the extension was finalised there was a change of plan, with midfielder Vaughan instead heading to Humberside after the Tigers contacted Oldham.

"Hull enquired about Harry and we thought it was a really good idea," Latics boss David Unsworth explained.

"Hull's Under 21s took Joe Edwards on trial a couple of weeks ago and they asked if Harry could go in for a week or two to have a look at him for their under 21s.

"I wouldn't want to ever step in the way of someone bettering themselves at a level like that, and it was something that Harry said he was really keen to do. He went away and spoke to his agent and came back to me the next day and said he'd like to go."

Should the trial be successful and both parties want to pursue a move, it would fall under the restrictions of the January transfer window.

But Unsworth added: "It's far from a done deal. Contractually we would command something in return.

"At the moment it's just an opportunity for him to have a look at them and them have a look at him."

Vaughan burst onto the scene during the 2020/21 season, making his debut in February 2021 - just over a month before his 17th birthday - under then manager Harry Kewell .

The teenager's progression continued under Keith Curle and he was fast-tracked to a senior contract in the first year of his scholarship. He was even a target for Burnley in their last Premier League season.

But with a change of manager and Latics fighting relegation last year, John Sheridan favoured a more experienced line-up, and Vaughan, who is in the last year of his contract, has gone on feature only once under Unsworth.
