Saddleworth star Brogan Crowley picked up a bronze medal at the IBSF Skeleton World Championships in St Moritz at the weekend.

Racing in the mixed team event - a new Olympic discipline in skeleton for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games - the 28-year-old joined Craig Thompson to get on the podium with a combined time of 2mins 25.32secs.

It capped off a good games for Great Britain’s sliders who also picked up silver in the mixed as Matt Weston – fresh from winning men’s skeleton gold last Friday – teamed up with PyeongChang 2018 bronze-medallist Laura Deas to win silver in a combined time of 2:25.04.

British skeleton performance director, Natalie Dunman, told the University of Bath, where the team are based, website: “To see two Union flags flying is a really proud moment for everyone involved.

“To come away with two medals in this race and three in all is a great achievement.

“It’s testament to the hard work all the athletes and coaches have put in since the spring.”

Germany’s Christopher Grotheer and newly-crowned women’s champion Susanne Kreher took gold by just 13-hundredths of a second.

It is a fantastic achievement for Oldham slider Crowley who, as a former heptathlete specialising in sprint hurdles, was inspired by watching Lizzy Yarnold win Olympic gold at Sochi 2014 and found the sport through a talent identification programme.

She first began competing on the global circuit in 2019 and now has a medal to show for her efforts.
