Will Sutton is in contention for this weekend's visit of Halifax after recovering from a knock, but Chris Porter and Harrison McGahey are both unlikely to play again this season.

Sutton's return from a long-term absence was short-lived, after he suffered a setback following the 5-1 win at Dorking having missed the first half of the season with a fracture.

But the young defender returned to full training on Monday to put himself back in the frame for a place in the squad.

Hallam Hope is expected to resume training by the end of the month having already spent over a month on the sidelines with a knee injury.

However, Latics boss is not expecting to have either Chris Porter, who in November was diagnosed with a blood clot above the knee, or Harrison McGahey, who has been sidelined since August with a back problem, available again this season. Porter is out of contract this summer while McGahey has another year.

"McGahey's had an operation but it doesn't look like it has worked," Unsworth explained.

"He's had another scan on it and there's a meeting with five surgeons, I believe, around the best course of action for it. Whether he needs another operation that remains to be seen but we're looking at the start of pre-season for Harrison now.

"Ports had a really serious problem that thankfully in the end, while still serious, wasn't as serious as we thought it might be.

"Whether we see him again towards the end of the season, I'm not too sure. Probably not.

"The main thing with Chris is he's okay and he's got movement and he can be fine for the rest of his life, which is the most important thing. He had a bit of a scare. Thankfully he's okay.

"Football comes second when you're talking about something as serious as what happened to him. We're delighted that he's going to be fine. His long-term health is the most important thing."

Of the other absentees, Unsworth added: "Hallam will train in the next three to four weeks.

"Will returned to training this week and he's fine.

"He played in that great win at Dorking. In terms of performance in training we'll assess that over the week and see how he does, but he's in contention (for Halifax)."

Forward Alex Reid has taken part in full training after recovering from an Achilles problem and is also in contention.
