David Unsworth says Devarn Green is "like a new signing" after securing the winger on a new deal at Boundary Park.

Green today signed a one-year extension with one-year option after impressing following his move from AFC Telford at the end of January.

Unsworth is relishing the opportunity to work with the 26-year-old again, and believes there is even more to come from the former Blackburn Rovers trainee.

"We've agreed a deal to sign Devarn Green, which is fantastic," said the Latics boss.

"When he came, he was a recommendation. We did as much homework as we possibly could at the time during the season on Devarn.

"He came in and took his opportunity. He's a great lad, I've loved working with him.

"I think we've only seen 50-60 per cent of the real Devarn, I can't wait to get my hands on him in pre-season and work with that pace that he's got and get him on the ball more.

"He came in, his performances were good, he scored goals, he created opportunities for everybody else and he was welcomed into the group, which I thought was really good."

Unsworth, who has this week signed Josh Lundstram from Altrincham and Kurt Willoughby as well as securing new deals for goalkeeper Mat Hudson and Green, added: "I'm delighted to secure his signature for next season and potentially the season after as well.

"It's like a new signing for me really."
