Josh Lundstram is expected to miss the start of the season after suffering a knee injury in Tuesday night's friendly at Barrow.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who has impressed since arriving in the summer from Altrincham, went off in the first half at Holker Street following a poor challenge.

Lundstram, who was an ever-present for Altrincham in the National League last season, is likely to undergo a scan before the end of the week.

Latics are hopeful that the injury is only minor, with a recovery period of between 10 and 14 days.

But even so that timeframe would rule him out of the opening day at Southend United on August 5, as well as Saturday's final pre-season friendly at home to Mansfield Town (kick-off 3pm).

However, at this stage it is hoped that he would be fit enough to return for the first home game of the season, when Latics entertain Aldershot on August 12.
