LOOSE forward Emmerson Whittel feels there is room for improvement, despite putting over half a century of points on Cornwall at the weekend, writes Kasey Smith.

With the play-offs around the corner, Oldham now have three games to hit their peak including the yet to be arranged Workington home game.

“We took the game to them, we just wanted to get the job done and get the two points at the end of the day,” said the ever-consistent Whittel.

“We are nearly there, but we aren’t quite where we want to be. There were a few lapses in concentration where we came up with poor errors.”

Predicting what will happen is becoming increasingly harder with Doncaster losing again, who have been strong all season up until a number of games ago.

Roughyeds – should they win their remaining games – could secure third place if Doncaster continue to slip up and their earlier 40-20 win over Hunslet will provide belief that they are within more than a shout for promotion.

Emmerson feels Sunday’s victory helped put some doubts to bed, and he now wants to see the team kick on.

“Our discipline was better but it’s not perfect and there’s room for improvement. Come play-offs we need to be firing and everything needs to be squeaky clean,” he added.

“Getting the win was massive for us because we have been low on confidence.

“Obviously a lot has been going on behind the scenes, and we have lost a few games to the teams that are above us.

“It puts a lot of doubt in your head but we came here, got on with the job at hand, and came away with the victory.”
