Rugby League returned to Boundary Park for the first time since 2009, with a crowd of 1,283 watching Oldham's 40-22 win over Workington Town.

Mike Ford, Yeds' managing director and interim head coach, described it as a proud moment as his side continued to plough a positive path to the play-offs.

It was a game Oldham controlled throughout against their play-off rivals - even surviving a scrappy finale as they tired towards the end of this re-arranged fixture, having played a tough game against rivals Rochdale Hornets at the weekend.

And Ford hopes the Boundary Park experience leaves supporters, and spectators, wanting more.

"I was proud to play here for the first time (in 14 years), to get a crowd on a Wednesday night - not a great night in terms of the weather but it was our biggest crowd for a while," he said.

"The pitch was brilliant, we won the game.

"It was tough because we played on Sunday and they didn't, so we knew we'd tire near the end. But the boys put a shift in and credit to them to get back to back wins in the space of a few days. We've got to do it again on Sunday now.

"Hopefully we'll be back here again before next season."

But, regardless of what happens in the play-offs, Ford admitted that even on a wet Wednesday night the appetite had been whetted for when they go back to Boundary Park full-time next season.

"People will go away from tonight hopefully with a good experience, tell their friends and family," he said.

"The next time we play here will be on a Sunday afternoon, traditional (kick-off) and hopefully get more people again.

"It will be in September so nobody will be on holiday.

"The play-offs in September could be great for us."
