David Unsworth credited a resolute defence in earning a first clean sheet of the season, and a point on the road at Boreham Wood.

Latics were denied a late winner when Dan Gardner brought a good save from goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore and James Norwood hit the woodwork in stoppage time.

Having made one change to the team which drew 1-1 with Chesterfield last weekend, with winger Devarn Green playing for the first time this season after injury, Oldham boss Unsworth said his only criticism of his side was not being clinical enough.

"I thought it was another good defensive display, away from home. We kept our first clean sheet, which I'm absolutely delighted about," he said.

"We've made five or six chances, James has hit the bar right at the end.

"If I'm going to be critical, can we be more clinical in the final third? We created the opportunities again today and had far more opportunities than Boreham Wood and we probably should have won the game.

"We knew what to expect so we've worked on the long ball aspect, long throw, set pieces, that's something they do. They actually changed their shape today because they had two midfielders out, so they had three up front, and that was something that we thought they might do.

"They were in the play-offs last year, they're good at what they do, and we had to stand up to that first and foremost, and we did that. I think they've only created one or two opportunities, Mat (Hudson) made a great save in the second half, but we've made the best chances in the game, we just need to be more clinical and on another day we score a couple of those (chances).

"We've had a decent spell midway through the second half where we've controlled the game, and then it becomes a bit of a basketball game, which I don't like, but we've defended really, really well.

"It's a decent point but it probably should have been three."
