Former Latics striker Junior Luamba has signed for Salford City, joining the club's B team until at least the end of the season.

The 20-year-old left Boundary Park in the summer at the end of his contract, following four years with the club, during which time he made his senior debut in December 2020 and a total of 32 appearances in all competitions.

Luamba scored twice in 15 League Two appearances to secure wins at Sutton United and Scunthorpe, but it was a campaign beset by injury for the youngster, and one which ended in a relegation for Latics.

The striker could not agree new terms with Latics and left at the end of last season.

He has spent recent weeks on trial at Salford and turned out for the club's B-Team in last week’s Central League Cup fixture against Stockport County.

“It’s been really good, I’ve had a little over two weeks with the lads, training’s been good," he said in an interview with his new club.

"I knew a few lads before I came so settling in has been quite straightforward and I’m really enjoying it.

“As a player I bring a lot of pace and power up front, I like running in behind, working hard for the team and anywhere where the coach wants me to play and have a role for the team, I’ll do it.

“I’m at the sort of age I need to get a few games under my belt, the past few months have been a bit difficult but I’m looking to get my head down now and kick on, play a few games hopefully for the men’s team, and hopefully improve on my technical ability. I feel like Salford’s a great opportunity for me to do that and I’m looking forward to it.”
