The search for Oldham Athletic's new manager has taken a twist with interim management duo Steve Thompson and Neil Redfearn leaving Boundary Park.
Thompson was placed in caretaker charge after David Unsworth was sacked last month and orchestrated three wins and three draws of his six-game spell.
Thompson brought Latics legend Redfearn in to assist, and expressed his desire to get the job full-time.
But the club have this morning announced that the duo have left.
"Steve Thompson and Neil Redfearn have left their position as the interim management team ahead of the club making its next appointment," a club statement said.
"We would like to place on record our thanks to Steve and Neil for their work in taking charge of the first team during recent weeks.
"Academy manager Paul Murray will oversee training ahead of Saturday's Emirates FA Cup tie against Altrincham.
"An announcement in relation to the managerial position will be made in due course."
Thompson was appointed Latics' head of recruitment in November last year and was instrumental in a number of signings, including Devarn Green, Josh Lundstram and Shaun Hobson. The Oldham Times understands that he will not be returning to his original role with the club.
