Micky Mellon is hoping to end the day with a place in the next round of the FA Trophy, and a selection headache.

Latics take a break from National League action this weekend, but the visit of Southern League Premier Division South side Hendon is the first in a run of five games in a fortnight - with four of them at Boundary Park.

Mellon says he will be making use of his squad in that period, starting this afternoon (kick-off 3pm), but does not expect any rotation to have an impact on standards.

"I still expect to perform well and get a result because I believe in the players, so we will be using the squad a little bit more this week because we have a lot of games coming up," said the Oldham boss.

"That doesn't take away from the fact that we want to win games.

"We will be going out to hopefully get a result and be in the next round of the Trophy.

"But people will get the opportunity to show the reasons why they are here.

"I don't want to put massive pressure on them, but there's an opportunity for people to jump out at us and suggest they should be playing all the time, and I hope that happens."

Latics are favourites to progress against a Hendon side that have lost three out of their five league games.

Their FA Trophy journey so far has been an impressive one, beating Sudbury, Walton and Hersham and Eastbourne FC on their route to the fourth round, but this is their first away tie.

Nevertheless, Mellon is not taking anything for granted.

"We have to be the best version of ourselves and show a lot of qualities to get results, and Saturday is no different," said the Latics boss.

"There's absolute respect."
