Oldham Athletic's game at Eastleigh has been postponed due to the a frozen pitch, after the pitch failed a second inspection in two days.

An initial inspection was carried out by a qualified official at 9am yesterday (Friday) following guidance from the National League, at which point the surface was deemed unplayable.

However, in an effort to avoid a second postponement in a week - after their home game against Boreham Wood was a victim of freezing temperatures, Oldham requested a second inspection at the Silverlake Stadium, which was arranged for 11am today (Saturday).

But the pitch remains unplayable and the match has been postponed.

An initial statement on Eastleigh Football Club's website yesterday read: "Eastleigh Football Club can confirm that there will be a pitch inspection held at the Silverlake Stadium tomorrow at 11am.

"Following guidance from the National League, a qualified match official carried out an inspection at 9am this morning (Friday). At this stage he deemed the pitch to be unplayable.

"The inspection was carried out for the consideration of the travelling supporters and the away team’s travel arrangements.

"After further dialogue with Oldham Athletic, they have requested that a second pitch inspection would be carried out tomorrow at 11am. This was approved by the National League."

A further statement from Eastleigh this morning read: "Eastleigh Football Club can confirm that our National League fixture against Oldham Athletic has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

"With regret, following this morning’s pitch inspection which was requested by Oldham, a qualified match official has deemed the pitch to be unplayable.

"Following on from yesterday’s pitch inspection, as expected the pitch condition has not improved and remains frozen.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to travelling supporters, something we wished to have avoided with yesterday’s precautionary inspection.

"Further details of a rearranged fixture and ticketing information will be announced in due course.

"Tickets will remain valid for the rearranged fixture. However, any supporters who require a refund, please email tickets@eastleighfc.com"
