Oldham Athletic are offering young women the opportunity to develop their career in football with the launch a new Women's Academy next season.

The full-time set-up provides the opportunity for 16-18 year olds to receive professional football training while studying for an academic qualification, all at Boundary Park.

And Latics are holding an open day at the club's Little Wembley training ground on February 23, between 11am and 1pm, for anyone interested who will fit the age bracket in the 2024/25 season.

A club statement read: "This is not only a chance for young women to showcase their footballing talent, but also to be a part of a professional football club, both on and off the pitch.

"The course will be led by coaches already working in the professional women’s game. We are very pleased to confirm the appointment of the club’s new Female Development Officer, Holly Espie, herself a UEFA A candidate coach and current coach with Manchester United Women’s Academy.

"Holly has significant experience of coaching within the women’s game at clubs including Blackburn Rovers and with Jill Scott Academy.

"The new Oldham academy will also provide a pathway into our brand new women’s first team, as the club welcomes a new dawn for women’s football."

Those who join the academy will also receive a free kit bundle including boots, membership to Glo Gym, access to Oldham Athletic men’s home games and support for coaching qualifications.

The programme allows participants to obtain an NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity.

Any females aged 16-17 during the 2024/25 season who wants to join this unique programme are invited email football.applications@oldhamathletic.co.uk including brief details about your football experience in order to register for the open day on February 23.

Applications will be received by Female Development Officer, Holly Espie.

Arrangements for the open day will be confirmed by return but participants should bring a kit, boots and water bottle.
