Oldham Athletic midfielder Tom Conlon has been called up to the England C squad for their friendly with Wales C next week.

The 28-year-old, who joined Latics from Port Vale in January, was originally on manager Paul Fairclough's standby list but has been drafted into the main squad for the fixture at Llanelli Town's Stebonheath Park on March 19 (kick-off 7.45pm).

The England C team is made up of players from the non-league pyramid, with fixtures played against other C teams or international Under 23 squads.

England C will compete for the Anthony Hughes Trophy when they take on Wales C, and Fairclough said: “I look forward with great anticipation to the annual fixture with our friends across the border.

“The games continue to be highly competitive offering fans a feast of entertainment from two groups of talented players.”

Mark Jones, Wales C manager, added: “I’m delighted that we have agreed another fixture with England C and I expect a well-contested match as it always is.

“Cymru C is always a fantastic showcase of the talent we have in the JD Cymru Leagues and it has proven in recent years that it can be a platform for players to go on and earn careers in the professional game.

“I am looking forward to the game being played at Stebonheath. Llanelli are a historic club and we hope the town and beyond will get behind us in March.”

Joe Nuttall earned his first international cap in the same fixture a year ago, played at Altrincham’s Moss Lane.

Magnus Norman had been due to play after receiving his first call-up, but the Oldham goalkeeper had to withdraw from the squad after a suffering a knee injury in training.

Nuttall, who is currently on loan at Cheltenham, completed the 90 minutes for England, who won courtesy of Barnet midfielder Ryan De Havilland’s goal in first half stoppage time.
