CLUB captain Jordan Turner is confident Oldham will come out stronger from their early-season set-back and emphasised the task was never going to be “plain sailing”, writes Kasey Smith.

Now out of the 1895 and Challenge Cups, the focus switches to delivering the League One title this season in what Turner believes is one of the most exciting periods in the club’s recent history.

The former St Helens Grand Final winner, who started as a Waterhead amateur, believes achieving success with his hometown club will mean the most out of all he has achieved across his fruitful career.

“We were never just going to blow everyone away,” said Chadderton-born Turner.

“It’s a shame as I had a dream of going to Wembley with Oldham but it wasn’t to be – maybe next year.

“I’ve been involved in the sport for a long time, and I know things don’t just happen overnight when you have successful teams.

“We were always going to have a blip at some point, so playing those higher teams in the Championship has been a lesson learned for us on the journey.

“We are just laying foundations, with the main aim for this team to get out of this division this year, and we are still fully focused on that.”

The 35-year-old urged fans of the past to reignite their support for Oldham following last week’s announcement that season tickets were back on sale.

“The fans are as passionate as ever, and are still the same people that I used to stand on the terrace with as a kid,” he said,

“I know how passionate they are – and how this town is – for us to do well and to get kicking again from where the club was in the past.

“We are on the right path, we just need a few more wins under our belt and the good times will be rolling.

“Why wouldn’t you get a season ticket? I know I would if I wasn’t playing.

“All my family have season tickets and some of my friends have come out of the woodwork and started watching again.

“So all you people in the woodwork come out and get your season tickets – it will be worth it.”

Prices start from just £16.50 per game for adults and £11.50 for concessions with under-16s free for Oldham’s ten home games in the upcoming 2024 League One season.
