On the eve of Oasis announcing their long-awaited reunion tour, Oldham Athletic Definitely Maybe should have been the first team to beat Gateshead this season.
The first half was spent trying to contend with their visitors' attacking threats, coming unstuck in the 10th minute through a not-quite Supersonic effort from Tyrelle Newton, but good enough to beat Mat Hudson from distance when he was given too much time and space to shoot.
Latics manager Micky Mellon and his staff re-organised them at half-time, enabling them to Roll With It better in the second half through a more efficient press to make sure they fought back, as they had done against AFC Fylde last time out at Boundary Park, and not let the game Slide Away. Indeed, Latics should have completely turned it on its head.
Manny Monthe produced his second equaliser in as many home games, emphatically turning a free kick that Dan Gardner bent brilliantly around the defence past impressive goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks.
The defender should have scored in the first half but a total of three attempts in a matter of seconds were thwarted. The first two - a Gardner free kick and a Charlie Raglan shot - were blocked. Monthe was first to react to the rebound but was denied by Brooks.
There were a couple more near misses before the break, for midfielders Josh Lundstram and Tom Conlon, but it wasn't until the second half that Latics, Little By Little, really peppered their opponents' goalmouth.
There were ricochets and rebounds, and Jean Belehouan’s back pass beat his own keeper but came back off the post and couldn't be converted.
Latics only had Monthe's goal to show for it in the end. Some Might Say it should have been more. Manager Mellon certainly would. But his message is Don't Look Back In Anger.
"We'll respect the point," said the Scot, who gave a debut to newest signing Callum Dolan from the bench.
"I don't really remember Gateshead having any opportunities in the second half, which is great credit to us because they're a good team and they'll cause teams a lot of problems this season.
"We had a few chances but we'll take the positives from that and say we're creating really good chances against good teams. If we can put the final touch to things then we'll keep picking up wins."
