LATICS target Josh McPake has signed a two-year contract extension at Rangers, but is still expected to go out on loan this season.

The winger spent the second half of last season with Harrogate Town, catching the eye of Oldham head coach Keith Curle.

But after impressing in League Two McPake looks set to make the step up to League One, with newly promoted Morecambe favourites for his signature.

Latics faced plenty of competition for the 19-year-old's signature, with Motherwell, Livingstone, Doncaster and Tranmere all making enquiries.

McPake's Ibrox contract was due expire next summer but he has now penned a deal until 2024.

He is due to become former Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson’s fifth summer signing at Morecambe after Anthony O’Connor, Wes McDonald, Ryan Delaney, Arthur Gnahoua and Callum Jones.

Ex-Motherwell boss Robinson was appointed Morecambe boss earlier this month after Derek Adams quit to join Bradford in the aftermath of the Shrimps winning promotion to the third tier for the first time in the club's history with a 1-0 win over Newport in the League Two play-off final.
