FORMER Latics loanee Ian Lawlor will be playing his football in Scotland next season.

The goalkeeper has joined newly-promoted Premiership side Dundee on a two-year deal after being released by Doncaster.

The Irishman was number one at Boundary Park during his season-long from the Keepmoat Stadium, making 39 appearances in all competitions before his campaign was cut short by an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old’s place in the side was taken by Laurie Walker on a week-to-week emergency loan from MK Dons and after impressing under Keith Curle, Walker has now signed a new contract with his parent club.

Goalkeeper was a major area of recruitment for Curle this summer with his two contracted goalkeepers, Gary Woods and Laurence Bilboe, also departing at the end of their deals.

Latics have so far brought in former Shrewsbury, Blackburn and Fleetwood man Jayson Leutwiler who is yet to feature in pre-season as he is on Gold Cup duty with Canada. Other goalkeepers have featured on trial with competition needed for the Switzerland-born 32-year-old this season.

Lawlor came through Manchester City’s academy before loan spells at Barnet and Bury preceded a permanent move to Doncaster in 2017, from where he had loan spells with Scunthorpe and Latics.

Now he moves to Dens Park with the club having been promoted to the top flight in May after victory over Kilmarnock in the play-off final.
