OLDHAM Athletic have secured the return of Christopher Missilou.

The midfielder spent two seasons with Latics from the summer of 2018, making over 80 appearances in all competitions.

The former France youth international went on to join Northampton on a free transfer at the end of his contract at Boundary Park.

Missilou has since had spells at Swindon and Newport, who he joined in the summer but had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old has been training with Latics in recent weeks, and has agreed terms to re-sign to become the club’s first capture of the January transfer window.

Missilou, who has signed an initial deal until the end of the season, said: "I'm excited to be back at the club and to get going on the field again in front of the fans.

"I really enjoyed my time here, so when I heard of the interest I knew that I wanted to return to Oldham to help and give everything for the badge."

Missilou, a DR Congo international, will be available for selection for Saturday's scheduled game at Harrogate and has been assigned a new number (28).

Latics remain under transfer embargo as per the conditions of a loan agreement with the English Football League but are able to sign free agents and players on loan.

They have been linked with a loan deal for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Alex Hunt.

The 21-year-old yesterday signed a new two-year deal at Hillsborough but could end the season at Boundary Park.

There has been competition for his signature after he impressed while on loan with Grimsby in the National League, but Hunt is said to be in advanced talks with Latics about a loan move until the end of the season.

Hunt, a product of Sheffield Wednesday's Academy, featured in the Owls' Under-23s game with Coventry City last Monday, where he scored twice in a 4-2 win, which was watched by Wednesday manager Darren Moore, Hunt bagged a brace and created one in a 4-2 Wednesday win.

Hunt has made 14 first team appearances since making his Owls debut in the EFL Cup in August 2018.
