TOPE Obadeyi has returned to Oldham Athletic to boost the club’s relegation fight, after signing a six-month deal.

Head coach John Sheridan has worked with the pacy, attacking midfielder on three previous occasions, with the 32-year-old a key component of the last ‘Shezurrection’ at Boundary Park.

And, although Latics were Obadeyi's last English club as he moved to France to join Ligue 2 side Sochaux FC in the summer of 2018, Sheridan is confident he can get the best out of him again.

"Tope's been keeping fit at Newport earlier in the season after a difficult period for everyone over the last 18 months with limited football," the Oldham boss explained.

"He’s a good player and a good character though and as soon as I had the chance to bring him in and have him around the squad it was a no-brainer, especially the situation the club’s in at the moment and how we need to be more attack-minded.

"This will be the fourth time that we’ve worked together, so I’ll get the best out of him and hopefully he'll add a few goals as well. But one thing the fans can rely on is he will give it his all when out there and to be fair to him he's ready to play."

In his last spell with Latics Obadeyi made 42 appearances and scored five goals in helping the club to achieve another Great Escape.

He arrives after Monday's transfer deadline by virtue of being a free agent.

Although Latics had hit their 23-man squad limit under their transfer embargo following the deadline day signing of Mike Fondop, players can be de-registered if they are released or suffer a long-term injury, and this is believed to be the case in Oldham being able to up an extra space to allow Sheridan to further strengthen.

After completing his return to Boundary Park, former Kilmarnock and Dundee United midfielder Obadeyi tweeted: "Delighted to be back and I'm ready to give 110%.

"Let's keep the faith and positivity around the club.

"Look forward to seeing the away end bouncing tomorrow."

Obadeyi's move is subject to international clearance, with his last active club being in France, but the club are not anticipating any issues and are hopeful he will be available for selection against Scunthorpe United tomorrow.
