OLDHAM Athletic remain unbeaten under John Sheridan as Mike Fondop scored twice to secure a point in a six-goal thriller at Newport County.

Latics twice came back from behind before taking the lead with 10 men, following Dylan Bahamboula's 69th minute dismissal for an adjudged foul on Matt Dolan.

But, after Fondop scored his second to continue a dramatic turnaround for the visitors make it 3-2 in the 82nd minute, Mickey Demetriou rescued a point for play-off chasing Newport.

Ryan Haynes had given the home side a 14th minute lead and they looked to capitalise on it quickly but met resistance from goalkeeper Danny Rogers and the Oldham defence.

Davis Keillor-Dunn made it three goals in two games with a superb equaliser just before the half-hour.

But Dom Telford gave Newport a 2-1 half-time lead, converting Cameron Norman's cross in the 40th minute.

Having recovered from a head injury, Mike Fondop came off the bench for the injured Junior Luamba just before the break, and the Latics' substitute headed in Nicky Adams' corner to equalise four minutes into the second half.

Bahamboula and Sam Hart both had efforts saved before Latics were reduced to 10 men when Bahamboula, who had been booked in the first half, was sent off with over 20 minutes remaining.

Telford was denied by the woodwork as Newport tried to capitalise on their one-man advantage.

But Fondop got on the end of Hart's low ball into the box and smashed home his second to stun the home side.

Latics tried to hold on for a remarkable win, but Demetriou salvaged a point for the Exiles with his 89th minute rocket from the edge of the box.

Sheridan's men remain second bottom, but Carlisle's 2-2 draw at fellow strugglers Colchester means they remain just two points from safety, with a game in hand.
