OLDHAM Athletic are down to the bare bones for tonight’s game at Walsall, with injuries mounting up.

Latics were already without Junior Luamba and long-term casualty Mike Fondop for Saturday’s trip to Swindon Town.

And a stoppage-time defeat came at an additional price with Harrison McGahey going off at half time with a thigh injury and Hallam Hope sustaining a knock, while Tope Obadeyi had already been ruled out by a training ground injury on the eve of the game.

Head coach John Sheridan will run the rule over the most recent injuries before selecting his squad for the trip to the Bescot Stadium.

But he will definitely be without Jordan Clarke, pictured, after the defender was sent off in the first minute of stoppage time at Swindon for a second bookable offence.

“We’re very short,” said Sheridan.

“H has gone off injured and Clarkey’s obviously a game now (suspended), Tope got an injury (on Friday), but we’ve just got to battle.

“I’ve always said it will be about the squad because we’ve got so many games, but we can’t keep picking injuries up like we have because the games are coming thick and fast.”

Sheridan added that McGahey would be carefully monitored ahead of tonight’s game.

“I think he’s got a bit of a thigh injury so we’ll have to assess him,” he said.

“They’re quite delicate, you’ve got to be careful with them.”

Defeat at Swindon Town on Saturday made it back-to-back losses after a seven-game unbeaten run to start Sheridan’s latest tenure.

As a result, Latics go into tonight’s game three points adrift of safety. But Sheridan remains optimistic.

“You can see there’s a lot of hunger in them to try to get something from games,” he said.

“We’re still in the mix, we can still catch teams, it’s still in our own hands. But games are really tough, especially with the players we’ve got available at this moment in time.

“That obviously doesn’t help our cause.”
