KEITH Curle says it will be a joint decision between himself and sporting director Mo Lemsagam when it comes to recruitment at Boundary Park.

Curle has entered his first transfer market since taking charge of Latics in March, initially on a short-term deal before going on to agree a two-year contract.

Negotiations over the 57-year-old's extension were prolonged, with the former Carlisle and Northampton boss keen to seek assurances over the budget at his disposal and the specifics of his role within the club.

Before the end of last season, Curle said: "It's an ongoing process involving all the stakeholders of the football club, making sure that everyone's aware of what's required, what the job is, what the role is, how it works."

Amid a high turnover of managers in the three years that Abdallah Lemsagam has owned Latics, there has been ongoing criticism of interference from him and his sporting director brother Mo, leading to Curle being the ninth managerial appointment under their brief regime.

But fresh from signing his new deal, when asked who would have the final say over new signings, Curle said: "It's got to be a joint decision. Identifying players and bringing players into the football club...I know I'm in charge of results and the better results I get the better I'll do for the football club.

"I've got a good relationship with Mo, and Mo understands that we're working in an area that I'm very familiar with.

"I know players, I know what I can get out of players, I know players that are under achieving that haven't achieved, so it's finding a way of working together and sharing that information and then making the right decisions for the betterment of the football club and the football team."

And Curle is aware of the figures that he has to work with, and intends to invest it wisely, as he has at his previous clubs.

"Every football club has a working budget. Every football club I've been at I've over performed for the budget, and so I'm used to the expectations and the demands that go with that. I get value for money," he said.

"Every football club in League One and League Two will have a working format whereby costs and savings are vitally important, and what I always try to add to that equation is costs, savings and value."

Curle has 11 senior contracted players from last season, with a further four Academy stars signing professional deals.

The Latics boss has yet to make his first summer signing but is expecting to welcome new arrivals before the players return for pre-season training next week.
