KEITH Curle has made striker Hallam Hope his first signing for Oldham Athletic.

The 27-year-old was revealed as a target by The Oldham Times last month, with the striker a free agent following his departure from Swindon Town, and the pair having worked together at Carlisle United.

Indeed, after signing him at Brunton Park, Curle admitted how persistent he had been in pursuing the centre forward, saying: "I’ve probably chased Hallam more than I’ve ever chased anyone else through my whole life - ex-wife, ex-partner and current girlfriend included."

And the 57-year-old is delighted to be reunited with the Manchester-born forward, who has signed a one-year deal with an option to extend.

“I’ve worked with Hallam previously and it went well," said Curle.

"There’s a genuine respect and excitement at what he can achieve at this club and knows he’s come in to add that experience in attack we need.

“An early target this summer it’s taken time to get it done but shows our hard work is now paying dividends as we get more deals and experience into the side, Hallam being a key part of that.”

Hope, who has recently returned from international duty with Barbados, added: “I’m looking forward to working with Keith again and getting used to my new surroundings when I return.

“I love scoring goals and working hard for the team and it’s a big season ahead after listening to what the gaffer wants to achieve and build here.

“I’m raring to go and have played against Oldham a number of times over my career so I know the fans want players to work hard for the club and give 100 per cent on the pitch.”

The transfer is also subject to FA and EFL approval.
