JACOB Blyth has left Latics after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The striker was looking to kick-start his career with Oldham Athletic after signing a short term deal earlier this month.

But having started the season in the line-up against Newport on the opening day and Tranmere in the Carabao Cup, the 29-year-old was on the bench at Bradford City and Bristol Rovers.

And Latics head coach Keith Curle says that a lack of first team minutes was a factor in their decision to part ways.

"Jacob had a short-term contract that's been terminated by mutual consent," Curle explained.

"Jacob wanted more game time and needed more game time. He's missed a lot of football and he wasn't getting opportunities to start games that he wanted so we mutually agreed that it would be better for him to go and get more regular game time to kick-start his career."

Blyth has had a number of a clubs since turning professional with Leicester in 2012, having started his career in non-league.

But he has struggled to find roots and establish himself, and is arguably better known for starring in television programme Geordie Shore as the fiance of Holly Hagan.

"He was at a stage he needed game minutes to get his sharpness back and he didn't feel that he was going to be getting that sitting on the bench predominantly or being a bit-part player," added Curle.

"Ultimately you've got to look after yourself, he knows what he needs and we're very respectful of that.

"He's a very nice lad, good professional, excellent around the group and fitted in well, but ultimately we need a goal threat and someone who's going to score goals."
