JAYSON Leutwiler is set to make his Oldham Athletic debut today after finalising new terms at Boundary Park.

The former Blackburn Rovers and Fleetwood Town goalkeeper was among Curle’s first summer signings earlier this summer.

But the Canada international has not yet been able to play for his new club because his contract was disputed by the EFL under the conditions of Latics’ transfer embargo, which they were placed under as part of a monitored loan agreement.

The loan was made available to League One and League Two clubs earlier this year to address the immediate financial challenges faced by clubs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was based on a three-year business plan to demonstrate financial sustainability over that period.

But there are limitations within it, as Swindon Town and Scunthorpe United have also discovered, and Leutwiler’s initial contract did not meet them.

Leutwiler missed Latics’ pre-season because of international duty as Canada reached the semi-finals of the Gold Cup.

But since his return he has been in re-negotiations with the club in order to remain at Boundary Park, after arriving as a free agent this June.

Those talks have now reached a conclusion, with Leutwiler now registered to play on new terms that have been agreed by all parties, in particular the EFL in conjunction with the monitored loan regulations.

Goalkeeper Laurie Walker, who returned to Latics on an emergency loan deal following injury to Danny Rodgers earlier this month, has been recalled by parent club MK Dons.

Leutwiler is set to go straight into the line-up to face Football League newcomers Sutton United this afternoon.

A statement from Latics read: "Oldham Athletic are pleased to announce that contract negotiations with Jayson Leutwiler have come to a successful conclusion.

"Leutwiler is now registered to play on new terms that have been agreed by all parties and in particular the EFL in conjunction with the monitored loan regulations.

"The club would like to thank Jayson and his representatives for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the process and is available for selection.

"Now a resolution has been found Laurie Walker has been recalled from his emergency loan with a goalkeeper available.

"We would like to thank Laurie once again for representing the club and giving his all in his short time at Boundary Park culminating in a penalty shoot-out win and wish him all the best as he returns to MK Dons."
