LATICS captain Carl Piergianni has been linked with transfer deadline day move to League Two rivals Mansfield Town.

The centre half helped Oldham to their first league win of the season with his equalising goal in a late 2-1 triumph at Football League newcomers Sutton United on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has been at Boundary Park since January 2020 - initially on loan from Salford City before the move was made permanent that summer.

Former Stockport defender Piergianni has been an almost ever present in Latics' starting line-up since his arrival.

Having conceded in every League Two game so far this season, Mansfield are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements before tonight's 11pm cut-off.

Manager Nigel Clough has indicated he is keen to add two defenders before the deadline, and it is understood Piergianni has been earmarked as one of them.

However, The Oldham Times understands an official approach has not yet been made to the club, although that situation could obviously change in the coming hours as the clock ticks down.

Latics are at home to Piergianni's old club Salford tonight in the Papa John's Trophy, kick-off 7pm.
